My Best/Worst Trade of The Week Was.....

Well this was a week for the record books! After 4 days of 400+ point swings in the Dow I'm ready for a break, but this week got me thinking. How many of our readers were actively trading this week and how many were sitting on the sidelines? So the question this week is.

Were you actively trading this week or were you on the sidelines?

are there any new events re: bp plc and the adr BPT "'

all members your opinion re NLY WILL IT HOLD. MO ALTRIA AND PHILLIP MORRIS

ANY GREAT IDEAS ON DIVIDEND STOCKS

  2. huge movement in OZ markets

I got stopped out on one stock and so I am all cashed up

I am glad the bank shorting has largely been stopped by law

it worked in Australia during the GFC

however I still think I will sit on the cash for a bit as I fear Italy is going backwards real quickly and by law they cannot turn on the printing presses like the USA.

I still feel the Australia dollar will remain strong and trade on its safe haven AAA standards

I am not a financial advisor so DYOR - but there is FEAR in the markets

  3. The morning of 08/04 I purchased 20 QQQ 09/17/11 $50 puts@ $0.19 and sold early this week @ $2.42 ( they topped out @ $2.68) I missed the top by 4 minutes, but not bad for a mere mortal v.s. the "Skynet" machines!!!They must be stopped!!!-- Also picked up 1/4 to 1/3 positions on Monday in NOV @ $60.57, LNG @$ 6.46, VLO @ 18.32, SVM @ $7.97 and PBR @ $25.05 . I backed those w/ 01/19/2013 calls---3 NOV $100 calls @3.45, 10 LNG $20 calls @ 0.95, 7 VLO 35 calls @ 0.80, 8 PBR 45 calls @ 0.55....I know these are a bit out of the money, but the short term losses (even if they go to 000) are manageable and by 2013,they have a good chance to come roarin' back enough to,at least, throw some money at them!!! I did not back SVM because I think silver MAY pull back some.I SHORTED GOLD on Tuesday, because of a GOOD CHANCE the GAP UP would get filled on the way down, in case of a Market bounce, and on Wednesday morning, I bought 20 VIX 11/16/11 18 puts @ $0.30 --again, in case of a SHORT TERM bounce, exasperated by wild automated short covering.---I'm out!

  4. took profit on GLD call spreads day after the high, ditto SPX put spreads near low, had them for a while so the gains were exceptional, ditto put spreads on BAC, my best week in years.

  5. Thanks to Adam and his pronouncement last week that we were in a bear market, I had the confidence to buy several inverse/bearish ETFs around the middle of last week. My best exit would have been end of day last Friday, but I did get out of all the first thing yesterday (8/11). Good thing I got out, since the market has rallied, and those ETF are 3x. I was is FAX, SRTY,MZZ,TZA,TYP,SDS,SDOG?, and a couple others. Late today, I saw that the financials were under pressure, so I went back into FAZ. I heard some interesting info about the banks today. You all likely know that the authorities in Europe banned naked short selling of financials yesterday or today. So, those stocks gained a bit. Then they declined this afternoon, and I heard on CNBC that back in 2008 when the US banned naked shorts on our financials, they continued to decline nonetheless in the ensuing months. Also, there was a rumor this afternoon that the people who have been shorting European banks have begun to short US banks now that they cannot short in Europe for some time to come. So, FAX is the way to play this move if you think it will continue. The financials seem to be the most out of favor sector. Time will tell. Price is truth.

  6. I was actively trading in the Canadian markets. Mainly took profits from my inverse TSX Index (HXD.TO), Financials (HFD.TO) and Energy (HED.TO) ETFs. Including taking some profits in gold stocks bull ETF (HGU.TO) when gold stocks rallied. Also, purchased Canadian Oil Sands (COS.TO) at $22 during the pull-back, it closed at $23.42...will be looking to take profits next week based on the technicals. Trying to get into gold bullion ETF, but don't seem to get a good entry point, now with the pullback, hopefully I will.

  7. Hi Susan
nice to see you have a very good trade.
since i am new to your club.i have not taken any trades expect one.
did you take this trade on a weekly triangle? .

    Take care
    bali

    1. Hi Bali,

I scanned for this trade using the Recent Trade Triangle scan looking for recent Weekly TT's. Since I the TT was in mid July I used the PSAR to determine a good entry point and the MACD for confirmation. I hope that helps!

      Susan
