As requested: MarketClub Alert Video

My post on Gold from a few days ago (read it here), received a ton of comments as well as hundreds of emails from current members as well as potential members. So as promised I got into the digital den and produced a video breaking down the Alerts function of MarketClub to hopefully bring a few more potential members into the club and help current members!

So please enjoy the video and if you are a member you are entitled to UNLIMITED customer support so don't hesitate to call 1-800-538-7424 or email our service team at [email protected]

  1. The video on Sept. 14 only played fore 58 seconds and stopped. Could ytou resend it?

    Thank you.

    1. Art,

Thank you for your feedback. All is working on our end. Try rebooting your computer. If you are on dial up it is going to be slow.

All the best and please try again.

  2. Hi Brad,

Eagerly waiting to see the improvements. You will agree that one needs to be very nimble while trading and the speed and accuracy of alerts is key to that nimbleness.

    Thanks,
    Trikaal

  3. Thank you everyone for your comments, patience, and suggestions! Jeremy, myself, and our entire tech team are focused on correcting the alert issues. Our tech team has been logging plenty of overtime and we're happy to pay them the extra cash as long as they get it fixed for our users.

Our dedication is to making MarketClub the best product available for our users who have put their trust in us...if we slip we're right there to admit mistakes and focus on correcting any and all problems.

Your help is much appreciated and again thanks for the feedback and patience.

    Best,
    Brad

    1. Thanks Brad, good to see you following up on this and that's great to hear.

Even a basic tweak like Trikaal suggested where "NEW" or some such identifier goes in the subject line of alerts where there is a new triangle would be a great help - something we can set up rules in Outlook for instance to sort the two different types of triangle alerts.

One step further might be to allow users to select when they set up the alerts whether they want to be notified about only "new" triangles, as some of us really aren't interested in all the alerts telling us about a new high / new low off an existing triangle.

If you need any further feedback or users to participate in beta testing, I'm sure you'd have a number of volunteers here.

  4. Look we all signed up for this service and stuck with it past the free trial period because there's something good here and so our comments should be taken as constructive. There's a good base, but it feels like an early basic version (1.0, maybe 2.0) with many obvious frustrating elements and much room to be easily improved.

What's disheartening about the discussion on the posts is how the MarketClub replies give the impression of not really listening to the concerns being expressed, but being more interested in sidestepping them by focusing on unrelated positives of the system.

In comments from both Brad and Jeremy (on these posts and in emails), you have both mentioned that the alerts are "confusing" - right there that's a clear indication there is a systemic problem. Good PR would be say to users, thanks for your constructive feedback, yes the product needs to be better and we look forward to improving it at the earliest.

You've got a number of users here that are eager to help improve the product and a savvy developer would reach out to such users to get their feedback and offer to include them in future beta testing. That's how good sofware companies increase customer identification with their products, and MarketClub is in the software business.

I signed up with MarketClub for a year because I believe in the underlying product, but if I don't see any improvement in it (ie, new versions that take into account user feedback), then I won't renew. Frankly from a PR perspective, in my view MarketClub's taken a big hit the past week and I hope you can turn this around.

  5. Hello,

With all due respect, here is my opinion for whatever its worth.

The alert service as it exists for Monthly and weekly is pretty useless or at best tedious. You will agree that there is a big difference between a new Monthly Green/Red and a new High/Low off an existing Monthly TT. If the alert service cannot distinguish between the two, then one has to go through all the email alerts and find which one is new and which one is off an existing TT. This is very user unfriendly.

At the same time the fix is quite simple. The subject of the alert mail as of now is something like this:

"Smart Scan Alert - NYSE_MRX GREEN Monthly Trade Triangle of +100".

The subject can be changed to:

"Smart Scan Alert - NYSE_MRX GREEN _NEW_ Monthly Trade Triangle of +100"

This will allow for some sort of email filtering to identify only new monthly TT.

Thanks to Brad for putting up the new video but it is not very different from the video already available in the help section.

And Jeremy, thanks for patiently replying to each one of the above comments but the key is to understand that the alert system as it exist now is not very useful, at least for monthly/weekly TT.

Having said that I use the price breakout alert and its is very very useful and works very well.

    Thanks
    Trikaal

    1. Trikaal,

Please see my comments to Jab above.

You make a great point by using the price break out alerts. I use them myself and that setting does work great.

Thank you for the feedback. It's always appreciated as we need suggestions from our members to make MarketClub and INO better.

  6. OK I see that if you are on a green weekly,an alert may relate to an existing triangle. But if you receive a lot of alerts it can be confusing to sort through the information.
The solution is to have fewer stocks in the portfolio, or, as many have already suggested, just alert to a CHANGE, green to red or red to green regardless of time period.

    1. Larry,

Great point. I totally agree that instead of having the alerts set to your whole portfolio, why not set them for the symbols that you are actively looking to trade or are currently trading. This will greatly reduce the emails and charts that you need to sift through on a given day.

Keep in mind that you can change the alerts as many times as you like. We don't limit the amount of changes that you can make.

  7. I agree with Jab, we only need the daily, weekly and monthly triangles emailed to us. We don't need to know the new high low, we need entry and exit points to trade well.

I'm glad I didn't get rid of my stockcharts.com account because my signals on stockcharts.com almost match marketclub's but in real time.

I bought this service for the emails and am highly disappointed that they are almost always late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Hi Everyone,

I wanted to re-post my comment to Larry from above so that everyone may read it.

    Best,
    Jeremy

Let's see if I can clear up some confusion about the email alerts within MarketClub.

I believe what's missing is the understanding of the relationship between the alerts, the Chart analysis Score, and the Trade Triangles on the charting.

By setting your alerts to once a day you are going to receive one of two alerts.

    1. To alert you of a new Trade Triangle

    2. To alert you of new highs/lows off of existing Trade Triangles that are tied into the Chart Analysis Scores.

The Trade Triangle system will not place two Trade Triangles of the same color on the chart at the same time. IE, if you have a green weekly Trade Triangle and a new signal point is reached it will not place another green Trade Triangle on the chart. It will send the alert for a "new high" and the date will be noted in the "Chart Analysis Score" as a new weekly high on xyz. This function keeps you aware of the current trend.

When a trend reversal happens the system will send an alert you of a new Trade Triangle being issued.

As for the time of delivery, we are currently working on speeding the alerts up. The system can experience a delay when we are sending thousands and thousands of alerts to our members. Rest assured that we are diligently working to make your experience with MarketClub and enjoyable one.

Thank you for your patience and I hope that this response provided some clarity to the Trade Triangle alerts.

    1. Jeremy, the point you keep ignoring it seems is around this:

"When a trend reversal happens the system will send an alert you of a new Trade Triangle being issued."

Other than quirks or delays in the system, I don't anyone is disputing the fact that one of the many, many alerts is around a "new" triangle.

The point is that nothing in that alert tells you if it is a "new" alert, so that you have to keep checking the charts, because of all the "false positives" of alerts that are really just talking about highs and lows.

      Do you not understand this?

      1. Jab,

Yes, I understand that the wording is hard to understand and to determine if a " new Traingle " has been issued. But, the alerts will produce the actual Trade Triangles emails when they are issued.

Below are two alerts that were indeed a new weekly and daily Trade Triangle that I received from my portfolio yesterday as well as a link to the chart.

        http://club.ino.com/members/charts/?s=NYSE_FHN

MarketClub Smart Scan Alert for FHN Daily Trade Triangles
FIRST HORIZON NATIONAL (NYSE_FHN) is trading at 13.71 +0.63 (+4.82%) and
has triggered a new HIGH for a Green Daily Trade Triangle

MarketClub Smart Scan Alert for FHN Weekly Trade Triangles
FIRST HORIZON NATIONAL (NYSE_FHN) is trading at 13.71 +0.63 (+4.82%) and
has triggered a new HIGH for a Green Weekly Trade Triangle.

As you can see from the chart that there were indeed new Trade Triangles placed yesterday and these alerts let me know when they were issued.

The settings I use are as follows,

Daily Trade Triangles, Once a day, Entire Portfolio

Weekly Trade Triangles, Once a day, Entire Portfolio

I also keep my portfolio list to about 50 symbols or less, this helps me cut down on the amount of emails that I recieve. I'm also only actively watching 4-5 at any given time.

        Jeremy

  9. Brad,

Just wanted to add to the above comments. We do get the alerts quite some time after the actual triangle shows up on the chart. In trading, time is of the essence. It would be nice to receive the alerts much earlier, when the "action takes place."

    Thanks.

    Loic

  10. I think that's pretty well expected dan. If you use the once per day feature, you're going to be stuck in the list of people who get processed whenever the CRON job kicks off the daily alerts. That could take hours based on the number of members marketclub has

  11. Sigh. Well, you guys at customer support have actually been VERY nice towards me; but I still struggle with the alerts. I only trade forex, and so I get plenty of alerts as the "score" changes on the various pairs. But, all I really desire is a simple alert whenever a pair, on either daily, weekly, or monthly, changes triangle color.

i.e., if on EUR/USD the daily changes from green triangle to red triangle, I just want a simple alert telling me so. After it changes to red, I don't necessarily want all the following email alerts telling me about scoring changes. As long as the daily remained red, there would be no other alerts.....until....the pair eventually went back to green on the daily. (same analysis for weekly & monthly)

But, for right now, I don't think your system is set up to do this. (your alert system seems to key off of scoring changes) But, alas, everything is still well and I still enjoy good ole Marketclub.

Keep up the good work! Barry

  12. ALERTS DON'T WORK. For example: on Sept9th, my email said there was a weekly alert for WIT. When you pull up the chart....no weekley alert!. My alerts are set up just like you said in the video. The last Weekly Alert for Wit was on July 15th.

  13. I find the alerts are sometimes completely wrong. I received an alert on Friday: TSE BCE green weekly. When I went to the chart, there was no weekly green for BCE. When I checked Monday morning there was a BCE red daily and I had received no alert.
Also I have sent 2 emails with comments and questions with NO REPLIES.
The video by Brad was useless.

  14. Brad,

My alerts are set up properly but I often receive alerts late, not at real time. I often get the alerts after the market closes.

    Dan

    1. Today I got 3 alerts at 10:51am, 4 at 6:15pm and 1 at 7:08 pm.
Hard to believe that times relate to events, since 5 were after hours.
Friday I got an alert for BCE on Toronto . It said green weekly triangle had occurred. I checked and no green triangle on chart then or hours later.
This morning I checked BCE and there was a red daily triangle but no alert had come.
Friday I emailed support but got no reply to date, (Monday at 11:40pm).
Weeks ago I emailed on another matter and again, no reply.

    2. Like Dan I also have the alerts set up properly and find that they aren't delivered in real-time - sometimes there's a lag of a few hours.

Brad, I appreciate you creating this video in response to questions/complaints on the gold blog, but you haven't addressed the key issue:

“whenever there is a new Trade Triangle issued for a symbol in your portfolio you will receive an email alert”

The problem is that users are complaining that we're receiving too many triangle alerts - basically every time a new high or low is created on a triangle.

This is not what we want. What users want first and foremost is to know when there is a NEW alert - as in a red triangle goes to green, or vice versa.

Sure that's in the flood of triangle alerts, but nowhere in the alert does it tell you that this is a NEW alert.

This is the key bit of information and why people sign on to this system - to be alerted right away when there is a change in the trend.

Note that I've tried repeatedly to bring this up with your support desk and can't get through to them either on this point.

I'd think I was missing something were it not for the fact that other users complained about the same thing on the gold post.

Please consider this carefully and you'll understand that the system does not do this, but it could so easily if it was fixed.

      Look forward to your reply.

      Rgds,
      Jab

    3. Thats very true! Especially Daily Alerts are faulty in my opinion, cause you get alerted that a new daily triangle has been set but once you look on the chart there is none. So something to look into please Market Club.
