Should Obamacare be defunded?

Today the House will vote on a short-term government funding bill that will include a provision to defund Obamacare. Of course, this provision will be opposed by Senate Democrats and President Obama.

If they can't work out a compromise, many functions of the federal government will be shut down indefinitely on Oct. 1st. Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, noted that "a government shutdown and, perhaps even more so, a failure to raise the debt limit could have very serious consequences for the financial markets and for the economy."

We want to know...

Do you think Republicans should keep trying to defund Obamacare, even if it means shutting down the government?

  1. Congresswoman Pelosi said something to the effect that if you want to find out whats in the Obamacare law, pass it. Congress at the time did not do its primary job of deliberation at that time. At that time, the law passed and we still have no idea of the actual cost, what the public response will be and many other issues. We see in the media the tax penalty of $95 for not buying insurance. But, in three years the penalty for a single person making $30,000 a year (not much) will be 2 1/2% or $750. And, that's a lot when the only alternative is to buy an insurance policy for 5 to 10 times that amount.

One of the effects I would like to see studied by some universities is what will the effect of the law be on expanding the underground economy? Will we be creating a massive increase in the number of tax law cheaters that we have now? It would have been so much better if the congress at the time did their job and passed the law in pieces after understanding the effects and public response to each of the pieces that would have come from careful deliberation.

As Congresswoman Pelosi said, pass the law to find out whats in it, but we did not know that would take 10 years and a trillion dollars to find out.

    1. I mean for our own sake we need to support this government. It is a laudable idea.
Some of us will not have time to be fighting chaos... we do not want to dream of this coming.

      1. its a bad idea! not thoughtful in any way! it is a tax on the american peoples to pay for illegals. watch suckerberg the BILLIONAIR, talk on the atlantic.

    2. What did the poor and indigent do for health care in this country before Obama Care? Answer: They were treated utilizing either Medicare or Medicaid. No body in this country is refused medical treatment or service. It's the law in this country to provided IT! Even the illegal immigrants get medical aid which we taxpayers pay for anyway. That's part of the problem as to why medical coverage is so expensive in the first place. The real issue here is that Obama Care is a tax. The Supreme Court ruled as such. Unlike other taxes with this one you the consumer and citizen are being forced to pay it. And in the end, you the taxpayer paying for it out of your hard earned wages probably won't get it to your satisfaction. Because there are provisions in it to put control of your health related issues in the hands of the government and not your physician!
When the government can get your mail delivered properly or the trains to run on time or better yet keep us out of costly foreign entanglements maybe then and only then will they have displayed the ability to administer socialized medicine in a responsible manner. Until then only a physician and yourself should be the one's deciding your medical issues and not some one with barely a GED making those decisions.

  2. this is dysfunctional government at its best. maybe what is needed now is direct participatory democracy. choose at random from registered voter population all elective, appointive, political civil service employees to serve on levels-local/regional/state/federal- in all executive, judicial, legislative functions (keeping salaries/benefits in place) for 2 year nonrecurrent, nonconcurrent terms. at least from that point all enlightened self interest will not be so invested in one party or another the individuals involved in these tasks will be able to consider the interests of those they serve-the registered voter citizen population/constituency and their collective needs for affordable healthcare, adequate education, full employment as federal reserve was required to fulfill, housing, home ownership that precludes and eliminates homelessness. these are issues worth weighty decision making processes done to meet the needs and expectations of the registered voter citizen population served in a timely fashion. take care of those responsible for taking care of the nation;s business first. address unmet needs by those required to uphold mandates of the laws to meet the needs of the people.

  3. > Sorry forgive my followup:
there's >>>>LOTS<<<<< of things in insolvent gov't should not do. - This is only one of them.

  4. I had no idea so many people wanted to see old helpless people deprived of care and medicines, people left to die because the test that would have saved their lives is not supported?
When will the communists figure out that you're only asking for shared misery not shared wealth or health?
I want to hear all this wonderful praise of centralized healthcare in figve years.
Lets make it a date ok? If we're still alive.

    2. u rite! dis is wat is hapenin today asd a result of obaminics/abomacarelessness. due! go blk and lok at wat the demo-kraps for brans did to the us-a economie frum the start? this is a depression! we aint gots to da recession yet? that cums after the abomination goes blk to chicago. and member detriot/chicago r bankrupt!

  5. The Supreme Court and head justice John Roberts ruled that it was a TAX. So not only should it be defunded it should be repealed completely!

  6. YESSS!!! Save the money that goes to support all those worthless people and SPEND IT on a PROFITABLE WORTHWHILE WAR somewhere. Syria will do if we can swing it. It seems defenseless enough. Maybe Egypt NEEDS to be destroyed. If not, what about Iran? Now, there we can NUKE it out! WOW! Sounds great! And Obama does not have to worry about support for any of this. The Republicans stand ready to support him in this and any war.

    1. welll; no we do not! u soun lik a WARMONGER U SEFF?! ifin u gona rant an rave lern to spek in OBAMINICS, den u be rite in wid da ress. r u a veteran?

  7. Defund the Affordable Care Act and let those suffering sick people go bankrupt too. Oh, and at the same time why not restrict the food that goes to those in poverty, especially the children. Widen those gaps. Be selfish. This is my America.

  8. this is a loaded question---two questions in one. Yes I want to defund obacare ----. no I do not want to stop government.

  9. Opposition party is deemed as "So Called" because all politicians are birds of same tree, only they sit on different branch of the same tree, so republicans may oppose little, but that will be for show only, they know very well and even aware of consequences, which may include them too, also they are conscious that due to their any such action, they will also not in a position to survive, as an impact of ultimate probable results of their any such movements, and therefore, chances are bright that obama win voting.

  10. My first thought is to let the law take affect. It would not take long for people to understand how very bad the law is and cry for change. But like all things in our government once you let the law take effect you never get rid of it. The administration would only impose the law on those people who have little political influence i.e. you and me. This administration does not seem to be the least bit interested in improving the economic condition of this country. You already see the result of this law and the number of companies that are decreasing worker hours and or are removing employees from their health care insurance. If you think that insurance rates and unavailability of care are not going to increase than I have a bridge you might be interested in purchasing.

  11. The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land. Deal with it. Many Republicans are fearful that the benefits of ACA as well as a shrinking deficit and moderate economic growth will spell doom for their 2016 nominee.....it's all about the HRC....

    1. And do not forget, that "medical industry" is one of the biggest business-economies, also in America. I helps in some way to stabilise that sector, and in the same way it helps, that more people can afford medical help.

  12. Some parts of the world are peaceful because the 'rich' recognise that they have to support the 'poor' so that their peace (the peace of the rich is not disturbed !). If the rich fail to recognise that wars, murders, gunnings etc will never stop...
Some call it charity; but infact it is for the sake of the 'rich' to stay comfortable by providing enough to keep the 'poor' happy. After all how much will they need...(many are satisfied with the very basics of life ... and a bit of comfort).. believe you me.
The earlier the whole word recognises that the better it is for all...... Many infact will not aspire to have millions in their account... many will only request for few 'thousands'.. and that is a fact !

    1. If this insurance scam, I mean plan, was any good then why did everyone in politics get a pass on buying it? You betcha that Barry, Michelle and their kids won't be having anything to do with it!

The scam sucked from the get-go. No one knows what it will cost or what is covered. How can the public get behind it? The supporters are Obama lovers and they'd say yes to anything he tells them is good (they didn't think before he entered the White House and haven't learned a thing since)!

  13. It is worth noting that Obama was trained in "community organising" at Saul Alinsky's Industrial Areas Foundation in Chicago. Alinsky dedicated his book, "Rules for Radicals" to Lucifer. Yep, I have a copy.

The question must be asked: Is Obama a Satanist? And if so what is Obamacare?

      1. Many a time I wonder if the devil is ''white' or 'black'... Does anybody know? Probably BLACK! But will the devil also like wars and kill thousands of people?... and love the idea of 'good health for all' Now I need to think again... Many , Many, devils are around... Probably I am one of them!

  14. If Republicans shut down government due to healthcare or raising the debt ceiling, hold up their checks instead of all the things they want to not pay or close.

If they are not getting paid, they will solve this mess.

    1. they juss voted themselves a raise and that they be exzempt frum the impact of obamakarelessness?! hoos dat wurk? if da gov shut down, dey wil not git paid?! that wurks!

    2. Sounds like a good plan to me! Cut them all off the payroll. Let's see how quickly they do what the majority of Americans want instead of what Obama wants!

    3. Wayne, I hope your "they" included both Repubs AND Dems. When I wrote "it sounds like a good plan to me", I meant to cut ALL politicians off the payroll, including OB. If the majority of Americans are against this so called insurance plan, perhaps 75% of us, then why can the minority dictate to us all?

Don't forget that Obama promised that "those who are happy with their current insurance plan can keep it." Another lie. Now that it is a "tax" we're all screwed into paying for something we don't want.

      1. At least Obamacare is an typical american problem/discussion. It might nor be very popular to many Americans at the first view, but I guess on the long road it is an improvement for America.
