Are You Prepared For Negative Interest Rates?

By:Tim Begany of Street Authority

Last Tuesday, all eyes were on Federal Reserve Chief Janet Yellen. In prepared testimony, she offered a few hints that interest rate increases may begin this summer.

While the crowd is thinking about rate hikes, few are thinking about U.S. interest rates heading lower, or possibly even turning negative.

The idea may seem absurd, but is it? Continue reading "Are You Prepared For Negative Interest Rates?"

The Next Financial Crisis(es)

George Yacik - INO.com Contributor - Fed & Interest Rates

The next U.S. consumer loan crisis might not be the student lending business after all, although that might happen, too.

No, the next loan crisis might just be another residential mortgage crisis.

Of course, the student loan business isn’t getting any better. The New York Fed said recently that 11.3% of student loans were delinquent in the last three months of 2014, up from 11.1% from the previous quarter. (By way of comparison, the delinquency rate on credit card loans was 7.3%, down from 7.5%.) Continue reading "The Next Financial Crisis(es)"

Swim Midstream with Pipeline MLPs

Adam Feik - INO.com Contributor - Energies

Continuing my little mini-series on energy investments that are actually performing (see also my recent refiners and solar articles), today I’ll turn my attention to pipelines.

Many pipeline companies, of course, remain very profitable despite the crash in oil prices, since the vast majority of pipeline companies’ revenue typically comes from fees paid by its oil-producer customers based on the quantity, or volume, of oil and petroleum products transported. Thus, energy pipeline companies (commonly structured as Master Limited Partnerships, or MLPs) are normally not terribly sensitive to oil price changes. Further, MLP stocks historically exhibit little correlation to oil prices, over the long term.

The NASDAQ Hits 5,000, What's Next?

It's already March, the first two months of the year have flown by! The NASDAQ traded over 5,000 today for the first time in 16 years and is within striking distance of its all time high of 5,048. The move has been largely fueled by Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL), which now commands an astounding valuation of 750 BILLION Dollars making it the biggest company in the world.

You may remember last Friday, I told you about one of my little rituals. At the end of the month, I look at the monthly charts to see the big trends and percentage changes for the month. I find it helps me see the big picture and the future.

That's what I do with the end of the month, here is what I do at the beginning of the month. I always say to myself "it's going to be a good month." You see, I believe in positive reinforcement and believing you can win in the markets - that is half the game in my mind, the other half is timing.

Last month, I showed you several ways on how to make money and use the Trade Triangles successfully. One way was to use the Trade Triangles to get the company earnings right and earn short-term overnight profits. This strategy has already been successfully used by quite a few members. The other strategy I showed you was the "52-week high on a Friday" rules. I hope that both of these trading strategies will serve you well in the months and years ahead. The FX Trend that's Brewing in the Middle East

Lior Alkalay - INO.com Contributor - Forex

As the title suggests, there is a major FX trend brewing in the Middle East, and one might intuitively come to the conclusion that it has something to do with the collapse in Oil prices which, as we all know, tends to drive the region’s growth. That would be a natural assumption, however today our focus is on the Israeli Shekel, the currency of the “start-up nation,” once considered one of the best performing currencies but which is now facing a major turnaround.
