gold barsGold futures fell to a six-month low after Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke says the U.S. economy is recovering, easing pressure for more stimulus measures by the U.S. Government.

Another blow to Gold was the announcement that Billionaire investors George Soros and Louis Moore Bacon cut their stakes in exchange-traded products backed by gold last quarter as futures dropped the most in more than eight years.

With these big investors bailing out on Gold we wanted to know.....

Chris Ecclestone: Gold Will Fall, Time to Switch to Specialty Metals?

The Metals Report: Christopher, you believe that the market will recover in 2013. Why?

Chris Ecclestone: We'll have a different type of recovery than we've had in the past, when everything was driven by the financial industry and house price inflation. The U.S. keeps driving along the edge of the cliff like Thelma and Louise, but never actually going over.

I get the feeling that there will inevitably have to be a recuperation. The ducks are in the row now for an industrial recuperation probably a construction-led one. I'm not talking about a rip-roaring recovery, but there is such a delicate balance in base metals between supply and demand that it doesn't take much recovery to vacuum up lingering stocks and tip the markets back into a deficit situation again.

What an American-US Airways merger means for you

While American Airlines (AAMRQ) and US Airways (LCC) announced plans to merge Thursday, it will be several months if not years before passengers see any significant impact.

Passengers with existing tickets on American or US Airways and members of both frequent flier programs shouldn't fret. No changes will come anytime soon.

American's parent company, AMR Corp., is still under bankruptcy protection and will need the court to approve the deal. US Airways shareholders will also have to vote for a merger. Then the Department of Transportation and the Justice Department must sign off. Finally, once a deal closes, the new company could operate two separate airlines for a number of years.
