Time To Buy Oil

It has taken some time, but it looks like Saudi Arabia has finally won the oil wars. The long and steady decline in crude oil, which has taken over five years, has taken its toll on many small oil producers who have effectively been driven out of business. Saudi Arabia's cost of producing oil is probably the lowest in the world and even at $30 a barrel, they are still making a ton of money.

Crude Oil

An amazing side effect was the fact that the stock market was driven higher as oil prices were driven lower. The perceived theory behind this is that the consumer could fill up their car at a lower cost and therefore would have more disposable income. Now that oil prices are moving higher, will the reverse happened and push equity prices lower? I believe that is exactly the direction we are headed in right now, oil prices higher, equity prices lower.

Our Trade Triangle technology may have already picked that up with a monthly red Trade Triangle in place for all of the major indices, indicating longer-term lower prices. In the case of crude oil, we use the weekly Trade Triangle which is now green indicating prices are headed higher. This is the first green weekly Trade Triangle for crude oil we have seen in over five months. Continue reading "Time To Buy Oil"

Sun Tzu and the Art of War for Traders

The original Art of War is a compilation of lessons written and taught by Sun Tzu, a sixth century B.C. Chinese General/ Philosopher. Its wisdom is timeless and has grown in popularity. It is, in fact, required reading at every military academy in the world and can be found in most corporate boardrooms.

In this adaptation of the master's classic, super trader Dean Lundell applies Sun Tzu's lessons to the art of investing - from designing a personal trading plan, to timing market moves, to gleaning data from a global information network. Each exquisitely designed spread opens with a passage from Sun Tzu and is then interpreted and explained for its strategic relevance to trading in stocks, bonds, futures and commodities. Guided by Sun Tzu's ancient wisdom, novice and professional traders can use these classic military strategies to conquer the market!

This Rally Will Come To An End Very Soon

Hello MarketClub members everywhere. It's Friday and a lot is going on in the markets. I believe that the sharp rally in the indices will fizzle out in the next five days and they will move into a trading range before heading lower.

The reason I say that is because all three major indices are in what I call "thin air". What that means is that they are all above their 50% Fibonacci retracement levels and close to their 61.8% major resistance areas.

Here are the areas for the DOW, NASDAQ and the S&P 500. Continue reading "This Rally Will Come To An End Very Soon"

How High Can The Indices Go?

Hello MarketClub members everywhere, it certainly was a "Super Tuesday" in many respects with the markets having their best moves to the upside in the quite some time. The weekly Trade Triangles all turned green in February indicating a sidelines position in all the major indices.

Indices

Now for some of you who like to swing trade, the upside objectives are pretty clear based on the technical formations that each of the major indices have created. The DOW (INDEX:DJI) has formed a double bottom and a pivot point that has been broken to the upside. If you're not familiar with this formation, we have a little lesson for you right here. The S&P 500 (CME:SP500) index also has this same formation. Continue reading "How High Can The Indices Go?"

It's A Leap Year So Watch Out!

In Ireland, February 29 is Bachelor's Day - a traditional holiday when women propose to men. Scotland began the tradition in 1288 by passing a law permitting women to propose and if refused, the man had to pay a fine. Only in Europe.

Leap years are also election years, as every politician knows, four years is just enough time for the electorate to forget all their broken promises from last time around. Plus, we all must take a giant leap of faith when you go to the polls.

Okay, back to the markets. It is hard to believe that we are rapidly coming to the end of the second full trading month of 2016. The first two months have been extraordinarily volatile with triple digit swings becoming the norm. As we move into March, I expect to see the markets begin to settle down somewhat.

So what's trending so far in 2016? Continue reading "It's A Leap Year So Watch Out!"
