Chris Ecclestone: Gold Will Fall, Time to Switch to Specialty Metals?

The Metals Report: Christopher, you believe that the market will recover in 2013. Why?

Chris Ecclestone: We'll have a different type of recovery than we've had in the past, when everything was driven by the financial industry and house price inflation. The U.S. keeps driving along the edge of the cliff like Thelma and Louise, but never actually going over.

I get the feeling that there will inevitably have to be a recuperation. The ducks are in the row now for an industrial recuperation probably a construction-led one. I'm not talking about a rip-roaring recovery, but there is such a delicate balance in base metals between supply and demand that it doesn't take much recovery to vacuum up lingering stocks and tip the markets back into a deficit situation again.

TMR: The Dow Jones Industrial Average is a couple of hundred points away from its all-time high. Do you get the sense that retail investor sentiment has changed? Continue reading "Chris Ecclestone: Gold Will Fall, Time to Switch to Specialty Metals?"

What an American-US Airways merger means for you

While American Airlines (AAMRQ) and US Airways (LCC) announced plans to merge Thursday, it will be several months if not years before passengers see any significant impact.

Passengers with existing tickets on American or US Airways and members of both frequent flier programs shouldn't fret. No changes will come anytime soon.

American's parent company, AMR Corp., is still under bankruptcy protection and will need the court to approve the deal. US Airways shareholders will also have to vote for a merger. Then the Department of Transportation and the Justice Department must sign off. Finally, once a deal closes, the new company could operate two separate airlines for a number of years.

When the airlines finally do merge, here's what passengers can expect: Continue reading "What an American-US Airways merger means for you"

A Classic Impulse Wave in General Electric

Explore the rules, guidelines and Fibonacci multiples of impulse waves

By Elliott Wave International

Impulse waves are an integral part of the Wave Principle. Understanding their rules, guidelines and Fibonacci multiples will improve your application and your ability to identify high-confidence trade setups.

There are three rules that govern impulse waves:

  1. wave two may never retrace more than 100% of wave one;
  2. wave three may never be the shortest impulse wave of waves one, three and five. It does not have to be the longest, but it may never be the shortest; and
  3. wave four may never end in the price territory of wave one. Continue reading "A Classic Impulse Wave in General Electric"

Poll: What are your thoughts on last night's State of The Union Address?

President Obama used his State of the Union address Tuesday night to address government spending, Medicare and declare that victims of gun violence “deserve a vote” on a sweeping gun control package.

Obama largely spoke these main issues, while adding a roster of wish-list items – including a call to increase the federal minimum wage to $9 an hour, up from $7.25, and pass immigration reform.

I felt like the theme of the speech was about boosting the middle class and jolting what continues to be a tepid economic recovery. We wanted to know......

What did you think of the State of the Union address by President Obama?
