Trading Tip #5 - Diversification

Diversify Your Portfolio: Diversification is key to your long-term success.

12 Days of Trading Tips Day 5

I'm sure you've heard the expression, "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket" (one of those market cliches). It's great advice, the last thing you want to do is lock all of your capital into one market or sector. This will provide you and your portfolio protection from a catastrophic event in a single sector.

Do you have a diversified portfolio? Not sure? You can use the following list of markets as a starting point to check your portfolio. Are you invested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs and private equity assets?

The end of the year is a great time to sit back, look at your investments and make sure that you are diversified and protected.

"Enter The Dragon" Starring … Gold

Recognition

Last Monday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) endorsed the inclusion of the yuan in the fund's Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket effective on Oct. 1, 2016. The Chinese currency has now joined the elite global currency club and will be the fifth member alongside the US dollar, the euro, the sterling and the Japanese yen.

Beijing has long hoped that the renminbi (another name for Chinese currency) would enter the privileged short list of world currencies, and it finally succeeded last week. But, first and foremost they are celebrating a political victory.

Some experts doubted that the yuan could be judged as "freely usable," which is the main criteria for inclusion to the SDR, but the reality proves that the stronger one is right despite such obvious contradictions as tight currency control and shares sale ban. The Big Rotation In 2016

Hello MarketClub members everywhere! As we start this trading week, I feel we are at a potential crossroads of some major changes in the markets. As you may remember, 2015 has been a no-go year for stocks and it would appear as though we have built a very large top in the equity markets for the time being.

Just as stocks have gone nowhere in 2015, gold appears to be building a base and ending its 4-year bear run. I am going to be watching that market very closely this week and in the near future. If gold moves over the $1,088.55 level this week, buy and hold it until the next weekly Trade Triangle signal.

So, what do I mean by the big rotation? I think we are going to see people move out of stocks in 2016 and transition more into assets like gold and secured short term interest bearing instruments. Continue reading "The Big Rotation In 2016"

Trading Tip #4 - Practice Makes Perfect

Practice Makes Perfect: After you've studied and developed a plan it's time to practice. 12 Days of Trading Tips Day 4

Paper trading is a tool for new and old traders alike, much like an athlete practicing their trade is crucial to their success. Practicing allows you to learn and tweak your trading strategy without losing real money. Much like online education, there are a bunch of paper trading websites out there and some even have games tied to them.

Most brokers have this function built in as well. If you've watched financial TV as of late, I'm sure you've seen the newest commercial by one of the big online brokers touting this very feature to gain new customers. That should tell you how powerful practicing is.
