Gold Futures

Gold futures in the June contract are trading above their 20 & 100 day moving average telling you that trend has turned higher after settling last Friday at 1,303 going out today at 1,318 up $15 dollars for the trading week as money flowed out of stocks and into bonds and gold. I am neutral in the gold market currently so I’m not recommending any position as the trend is not strong as the chart structure in gold is poor as well which does not allow you to place tight stops minimizing your risk so wait for better chart pattern to develop before entering a new position. If your bullish gold prices look at bull call spreads possibly for the month of June or if you’re bearish look at a bear puts spreads for the month of June limiting your risk to what the premium costs.
TREND: HIGHER
CHART STRUCTURE: POOR

Big Data Goes Hollywood: Alfred Maydorn

Special Situations: The ability to introduce technological innovations that disrupt established markets has long been a hallmark of capitalist success, as new firms with cutting-edge technologies overtake older, less-nimble companies tied to outmoded systems. What are some notable examples of innovations that have changed the way information and data services are sold?

Alfred Maydorn: The major technological transformation of our time is in how information is created and distributed on the Internet. Within that historic disruption there continue to be multiple disruptions and opportunities for gutsy investors. Never forget that Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN:NASDAQ) and Google Inc. (GOOG:NASDAQ) began as small, disruptive start-ups. These companies are now e-commerce giants, rivaling Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT:NYSE) for market share. Apple Vs. Amazon: Which Should You Own?

I've long been an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) bear. But we're all capable of change.

When AAPL fell more than 40% to just under $400, the forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio fell to barely 10 and the dividend grew to just over 3%. The stock suddenly made sense from an investment standpoint, and I began including it in client portfolios.

Similarly, I was the lone Android user in a house full of iPhone users. But when my contract expired a few weeks ago and my carrier offered me a free iPhone 4S, I became an adopter (if not a fanboy).

Having used an Android device for a few years, I used Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) cloud music player and built a decent cloud library. When I switched to the iPhone and downloaded the Amazon cloud app, I was immediately bombarded by offers from Amazon to buy MP3 albums from my favorite artists at $5 a pop.
