Enhanced Oil Recovery with Competitive Costs

The Energy Report: On July 26, George Phydias Mitchell died at the age of 94. The late Texas oilman had pioneered the use of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Can you speak about his achievements?

Jim Letourneau: Mitchell was the founder of the entire shale oil/shale gas revolution. For decades, the Texas wildcatters had known that there was gas in the Barnett Shale, but it was very difficult to get it out. Mitchell did not invent the fracking technologies. He just wanted to get the gas out of the shale. And as the owner of an oil company, he got to challenge the technical people. He basically said, "If you guys can't figure it out, I'll find someone who can." He had the power and the money and the persistence to make it work. Mitchell Energy Development Corp. began working on the problem in 1981, and it took until 1999 to figure it all out. The company sold for $3.5 billion ($3.5B) in 2001! It is inspiring.

A Monetary Master Explains Inflation

By Terry Coxon, Senior Economist

[Ed. note: One of the best things about being a partner in a research firm employing about 40 analysts is that I have unfettered access to really smart people. While we have a great team with expertise across the spectrum, when it comes to monetary matters, my go-to guy is Terry Coxon, a senior editor for our flagship publication, The Casey Report.

Terry cut his teeth working side by side for years with the late Harry Browne, the economist and prolific author of a number of groundbreaking books, including the 1970 classic, How You Can Profit from the Coming Devaluation. The timing of Harry's book should catch your eye, because his analysis that the dollar was headed for a big fall was spot on. Anyone paying attention made a lot of money. Weekly Futures Recap W/Mike Seery

We’ve asked Michael Seery of SEERYFUTURES.COM to give our INO readers a weekly recap of the Futures market. He has been Senior Analyst for close to 15 years and has extensive knowledge of all of the commodity and option markets.

Michael frequently appears on multiple business networks including Bloomberg news, Fox Business, CNBC Worldwide, CNN Business, and Bloomberg TV. He is also a guest on First Business, which is a national and internationally syndicated business show.

Grain Futures--- The grain market continued its bearish momentum this week pushing corn near 3 year lows trading far below its 20 and 100 day moving average settling this week at 4.52 of bushel right at session lows this Friday afternoon and down about $.10 for the trading week as U.S crop conditions are excellent at this point in time. Traders are waiting Monday afternoon’s USDA report which could surprise the market in either direction but as I’ve been stating in many previous blogs I continue to remain bearish this entire complex and I’m still advising traders to be short across the board. Soybean futures for the November contract are still trading below their 20 and 100 day moving average basically settling unchanged for the trading week and are much stronger than corn or wheat but it hit contract lows in Wednesday’s trade before rallying $.20 yesterday as traders are awaiting the supply/ demand and production numbers Monday afternoon. We've asked our friend Jim Robinson of profittrading.com to provide his expert analysis of charts to our readers. Each week he'll be be analyzing a different chart using the Trade Triangles and his experience.

Today he is going to take a look at the technical picture of October Live Cattle. (CME_LE.V13.E).

This week let's take a look at October Live Cattle futures.

When trading futures with the MarketClub system, we use the weekly MarketClub Trade Triangle to tell trend and the daily MarketClub Trade Triangle to time the trades.

Right now all three MarketClub Trade Triangles, monthly, weekly, and daily are pointing up which gives us the advantage of also having the monthly Trade Triangle pointing up, which is added confirmation that odds are with higher prices for Live Cattle right now. Momentum: By Definition it is Hard to Stop

Momentum:

  1. the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
  2. the impetus and driving force gained by the development of a process or course of events.

People trying to manage trend changes are by definition fighting momentum, which feeds on an established trend with powerful force.  A premium service I use and otherwise depend upon for analysis of conventional US stocks and sectors (i.e. non-precious metals, non-resources, non-global), [XYZ Premium, name omitted due to wider publication], provided a chart yesterday showing the S&P 500’s breakout to all time highs noting "And to think there are still people calling this a cyclical bull within a long-term secular bear market!"
