IBM and other tech stocks rise

(AP:NEW YORK) Strong earnings from IBM and other technology companies nudged the stock market higher Thursday, but a trio of weak economic reports kept the gains in check.

IBM surged 4 percent after it posted a jump in profits late Wednesday even as revenue fell. It marked the 38th consecutive quarter that IBM's net income rose over the previous year. IBM leapt $7.09 to $195.34.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 34.66 points to close at 12,943.36 on Thursday, the third straight day of gains. Continue reading "IBM and other tech stocks rise"

Energy Market Commentary for Thursday

August crude oil was higher overnight as it extends the rally off June's low. Stochastics and the RSI are overbought but remains bullish signaling that sideways to higher prices are possible near-term. If August extends the rally off June's low, the 38% retracement level of this year's decline crossing at 90.43 is the next upside target. Tech Stocks May Lead Wall Street Higher Once Again

(RTTNews) - After moving mostly higher over the course of the two previous sessions, stocks could see some further upside in early trading on Thursday. The major index futures are currently pointing to a moderately higher open for the markets, with the Dow futures up by 50 points.
