Q1 Is A Disappointing Quarter For These Two Portfolios

The first quarter of 2015 proved to be a disappointing quarter for both the Internet and the Perfect ETF portfolios, this was in sharp contrast to the World Cup portfolio that produced gains of over 20% for the quarter.

Q1 was largely sloppy and a trendless quarter for both of the Internet and the Perfect ETF Portfolio which explains the disappointing returns.

The Perfect ETF Portfolio

This portfolio is designed for 401 and IRA retirement accounts that can only to go long in stocks. Here are the 5 ETF's the portfolio tracks and trades in this portfolio. They are the ETF’s, GLD, USL, SPY, and FXE. You cannot go short in either a 401k or an IRA retirement account. The Perfect ETF Portfolio is designed to protect your nest egg from either a sharp drop in values or to protect you from rising values and inflation. In Q1, it did not trade two of the ETF's as our Trade Triangle technology was indicating that the ETF's, USO and FXE were in down trends. Q1 presented a difficult trading environment with no solid upward trends appearing for the quarter.

Here's how the quarter shaped up for the Perfect ETF Portfolio. Continue reading "Q1 Is A Disappointing Quarter For These Two Portfolios"

EURUSD: Why Recent Ups and Downs Are NOT Random

By Elliott Wave International

How do you know what "your" forex market will do tomorrow?

You don't. We don't. Nobody does. All anyone can do is guess. But some guesses are more "educated" than others.

In a recent interview, Elliott Wave International's Senior Currency Strategist, Jim Martens, explained why for the past almost 30 years his favorite method to "guess" at the market's trend has been Elliott wave analysis:

Jim Martens"Markets are doing what they are supposed to be doing: inflicting the most pain on the most number of people. Markets fool the most number of people at the most unexpected moments, but by tracking Elliott wave patterns, sentiment (and the news) you can prepare yourself.

"What separates Elliott wave fans from the rest of the public is that the public has no basis for determining when the trend may be over."

Let's take a look at a recent example: namely, price action in EURUSD on April 5-7.

Since the mid-March low in EURUSD, Jim and his Currency Pro Service team have been tracking a "messy" Elliott wave pattern in the euro-dollar: a correction. "Messy," because corrections are just that: choppy, overlapping, often directionless moments when it's just plain hard to make heads or tails. Gold Futures

Gold futures in the June contract are trading above their 20 but still below their 100 day moving average telling you that the trend is mixed as I’m currently sitting on the sidelines in this market after prices settled in New York last Friday at 1,201 while currently trading at 1,208 up about $7 for the trading week as prices filled the gap that was created in Monday’s trade as the true breakout will be around 1,224 to the upside. European Stocks Soar As The Euro Sinks

As yields on bonds and interest rates trend lower, investors around the world are looking at equities to save the day.

It doesn't matter if it's Europe or Asia, equities have been in a strong upward trend - just the opposite of what has been happening to interest rates. Can this trend continue? The answer may surprise you. Just this morning it was released that 52% of America is not in the U.S. stock market, they are not in mutual funds, nor do they have an IRA account.

That's an awful lot of firepower that is still on the sidelines that potentially could move into stocks. Here's my concern, these are largely uneducated investors and that could cause problems for the market down the road. Continue reading "European Stocks Soar As The Euro Sinks"

How the open can make or break your day

If you follow our blog, then you are definitely familiar with trader Larry Levin, President of Trading Advantage LLC. We have gotten such a great response from some of his past posts that he has agreed to share one more of his favorite trading tips as a special treat to our viewers. Determining the direction of the market can be tricky and just plain confusing at times, but Larry’s expert opinion keeps it simple and straight-to-the-point.

If you like this article, Larry’s also agreed to give you free access to his award winning book.

Today he’s going to talk about how the open of the market can make or break your trading day.

The open for any trading session can set the tone for the day’s trade. Barring any major fundamentals, it can signal whether or not traders are going to be primarily bearish or bullish, or neutral and cautious. The start of the day can set the stage for your own trades as well. Starting off with a winning trade or having the market move in your favor at the beginning of the day gives you a confidence level that can propel you to an extremely successful trading day. Having a negative tone or having the market move against your analysis and any open positions will probably color your judgment for the rest of the day.
