Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Friday, the 23rd of August.

The big news today of course is the announcement from Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO, Steve Ballmer, that he's going to retire within the next 12 months. The news was enough to send the stock of Microsoft up over 7%, which is good news for shareholders.

In my opinion, one of the major reasons why the stock of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has been unable to get going over the last decade is its failure to execute on any of the new technologies. Whether its online, mobile, phones, tablets or Windows 8, all of these efforts proved to be disappointments to investors and the market in general. What is it with these hedge fund managers who think that because they have been successful in one field, they can now go into managing big retail brick-and-mortar stores?

In my opinion, part of it has to do with ego and part of it has to do with what I call "walk-on-water-itis." This ego symptom is when you believe that you can't do anything wrong and that you're gifted with special talents. FOMC Minutes… Head for the Hills!!!

While the MSM instigates reasons why we should give a damn about what people who have little control over the T bond market were thinking at the last meeting, why don’t we just tune it all out and manage the markets instead?

tyx, etc

The top panel shows the 30 year yield marching toward the traditional limiter AKA the 100 month EMA.  The pattern measures to 4.5% or so, so there could be a spike above and a hell of a lot of hysteria at some point.  That’s the collective markets; 98% hype, hysterics and emotion and 2% rational management.  Either the 30 year yield is going to do something it has not done in decades (break and hold above the EMA 100) or it is not.  Simple.
