Dissecting MarketClub's World Cup Portfolio

Today we are going to take a look at MarketClub's World Cup Portfolio (formerly World Commodity Portfolio) that has been tracking six markets for the past three years. I think it is fair to say that the last 36 months have presented one of the most challenging trading environments in recent memory.

So how do we do it?

I put together this very short video which is only 1 minute 45 seconds long and gives you all the information that you need to decide whether or not this approach is one that could work for you. Bear in mind that the World Cup Portfolio is a leveraged portfolio unlike our "Perfect Portfolio" which is not leveraged.

The video can be viewed right here.

Please give us your thoughts and comments on our blog. I think you will find this video very informative and educational.

All the best,

Two Crucial Keys for Trading

Today's guest is Chuck Hughes of Wealth Insider Alliance. Chuck is going to discuss a simple way to kill two birds with one stone in this post on risk management. Be sure to comment on this post and let us know what tricks you use.

Does this phrase sound familiar?

"Watch the downside, and the upside will take care of itself."

That's what John Paulson's mentor and former boss, Marty Gruss, constantly drilled into his head.

Or, to put it in the words of Warren Buffett, "Rule 1: Never lose money.  Rule 2: Never forget rule No. 1."

What is the best way for you to minimize your downside and launch your success rate – and your profits – through the roof?

Actually, there are several ways… and two of them are absolutely crucial.  They defy human nature, but are absolute MUSTS for trading success.

In order to achieve success you MUST practice sound risk management by doing at least two things in particular: Continue reading "Two Crucial Keys for Trading"

How To Take Advantage of Price Momentum

Today's guest is Chris Vermeulen, but most people know him as simply, "The Gold And Oil Guy". Chris has been trading for over 10 years, fine tuning his trading strategy year after year and continually improving timing, entry and exit points as the market evolves. Chris's latest strategy allows him to take advantage of intraday price action without even looking at intraday charts! I thought this was an interesting concept and wanted to share it on the Trader's Blog. Be sure to comment with your thoughts and visit Chris at TheGoldandOilGuy.com.

Most traders just don’t have the time to track the market on an intraday basis. Crazy thing is, I found a way that takes advantage of the intraday price action while never needing to look at a single intraday chart. Now we can swing trade using the daily charts but get the added performance of watching the intraday chart price action. What also makes this strategy exciting is that it works with virtually any time frame, though each time frame and investment vehicle will require its own custom settings in order to track properly.

I call this strategy a Momentum Trend Crossover. It’s based on 2 moving averages that use intraday, day, or intra-bar price action to calculate its value. Also, a Donchian channel to track recent highs/lows for protective stop placement.

Below are three charts showing how it looks and works. Continue reading "How To Take Advantage of Price Momentum"

5 Steps to Trading Like a Professional Trader

Being a professional trader is a dream many investors strive for. According to Moby Waller of Big Trends, it is an attainable goal that like everything else, requires a strong foundation. Here are 5 tips to becoming a full timer from Moby that you or may not have considered. Be sure to comment and let us know what your ultimate trading goals are and what you have found to be important parts of your trading routine.

So you want to be a professional trader?  Here are some aspects of the job that you might not have thought of.

1.  Have a dedicated working environment and structured work hours.

Create a space for your trading that is solely devoted to that and make sure it is suitable for your needs.  What kind of computer power do you need?  How many monitors will you be using?   What software packages and scans will you be running?   Do you want CNBC or other channels on a television?  What newspapers, magazines and websites will be perused each day?  And so on…

Next, devote a set amount of time to trading every day.  Whether it’s the 6.5 hours that the U.S. market is open, or 1 hour at the open/close, or 2 hours before the open and after the close, find a time that works for your trading and stick with it like a real job.

I knew a trader in Chicago who began “scalping” U.S. Futures vs. German DAX Futures, which required him to go into the office every night from about Midnight to 5 am.  Is this a sacrifice? Yes … but the pay and profits from it made it worth his while.

2.  Have regular performance reviews and keep detailed records. Continue reading "5 Steps to Trading Like a Professional Trader"

Self Control and Discipline

Dave Curran is a respected author on a number of sites, Forex Avenger being one of them.

Today Dave will talk about managing your emotions in this tough market, specifically fear and greed. Read what he thinks

about disciplined trading.

After the trader has learned the mechanics of trading, we then enter into the world of Greed & Fear.

When you have your trading system in place, and know all about technical analysis, money management, probability, risk to reward and all the other components needed to be a successful trader, we are then introduced to our two friends Mr Greed and Mr Fear.

Greed and Fear = Emotions

It is sad to say this is the area that most traders cannot master, and if there was ever a secret attached to trading, this has to be one of the biggest, just behind money management. Continue reading "Self Control and Discipline"
