Aussie Dollar: A Matter of Timing?

Lior Alkalay - INO.com Contributor - Forex

About two weeks ago I shifted the reader's attention to the upcoming rotation back into commodities and the commodities FX play, i.e. the Norwegian Krone and the Aussie Dollar. While I had initially predicted back in May the 2nd, the Norwegian Krone has instead rallied on the back of appetite for Oil and the general lackluster appeal of the dollar. But that was and is still not the case for the Aussie Dollar. It seems that investors in the Aussie dollar are waiting for some cue, some development that has yet to materialize. What is this development and what would be its likely impact?

Aussie Reality Check

Despite the Australian economy being in relatively fair shape and with inflation levels still higher than its western peers, the Reserve Bank of Australia has keep the easing pedal pushed and slashed interest rates. And the basis for the RBA's policy decision? Of course, still tepid data from China and an uptick in Australia's inflation, which together lowered the core inflation in the country to 2.27%. The continued rise in housing prices, especially in the Sydney area, was largely ignored and essentially shrugged off by an RBA undeterred from turning off its accommodative policy. Hey, It's Just The Cost Of Doing Business

Today the Justice Department announced that it was levying fines against some of the world's major banks for rigging the foreign-exchange markets. The fines announced totaled $2.8 billion. Yes, I know that's a lot of money, but the reality is it's just the cost of doing business for these banks.

If the Justice Department really wants to get serious on this issue I think they should put some of these bankers in jail, that's what they fear the most - not the money fines. Jail time is the answer to stamping out the illegal activity and white collar crime.

Meanwhile, Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), a stock I discussed last week as a buy, is practically unchanged for the day and remains higher for the week. The fines levied by the Justice Department against the banks were like water off a duck's back.

In today's video, I'm going to be looking at all the major markets including the three major indices. I will also be looking at gold, crude oil and the euro and time permitting, one or two stocks.

Tell us what you think, do you think that these bankers should go to jail or was the fine large enough to satisfy everyone?

Have a great day treating everyone.

Every success with MarketClub,

White Metals: Buy In May And Go Away!

Aibek Burabayev - INO.com Contributor - Metals

Platinum Monthly

The old "Sell in May and go away!" saying is not working these days with precious metals. Both Gold and Silver did very well, moving upside beyond recently unforeseen levels in May.

As seen in the above monthly chart, Platinum is still in a long correction from the summer of 2011 after it hit $1918. Platinum lost almost half of its price, searching for the bottom for the last 6 months. It was a hard time for the traders, as stops were hit both in longs and shorts, but what is worse is that most traders could lose patience and belief in the metal. Beware The Biweekly Mortgage

George Yacik - INO.com Contributor - Fed & Interest Rates

A few weeks ago in this space I recommended that people investing for retirement should avoid the overpriced stock and bond markets and any imminent market correction and instead invest in themselves, namely by paying down their mortgage. It's a 100% guaranteed risk-free investment, and the amount of money you'll save will dwarf the return you might get on bank CDs. And it will make your household budget in retirement a lot easier to balance.

But one way NOT to pay off your mortgage is by calling one of those outfits that promise to help you pay off your loan early, for a fat fee, of course. They often advertise a "biweekly" mortgage in which you agree to send them one-half of your monthly mortgage payment every two weeks. By doing that, you're essentially making one extra mortgage payment a year, thus paying down your loan faster.

What the consumer is paying for, I guess, is the discipline to make those extra payments that they might not make on their own. Continue reading "Beware The Biweekly Mortgage"

8 Stocks Worth Looking At This Monday

Hello traders and MarketClub members everywhere. I found these 8 stocks using the Trade Triangles scan. Each of the stocks flashed continuation signals to the upside today. The only exception was one ETF, which gave a major buy signal with a new monthly Trade Triangle.

Let's begin with the ETF that gave the major buy signal.

The ETF is:

iShares Silver Trust (PACF:SLV)
The Trust seeks to reflect generally the performance of the price of silver. The Trust seeks to reflect such performance before payment of the Trust’s expenses and liabilities. The Trust is not actively managed. It does not engage in any activities designed to obtain a profit from, or to ameliorate losses caused by, changes in the price of silver. The Trust receives silver deposited with it in exchange for the creation of Baskets of Shares, sells silver as necessary to cover the Trust expenses and other liabilities and delivers silver in exchange for Baskets of Shares surrendered to it for redemption.

Here are the other 7 stocks and an ETF that gave continuation signals to the upside: Continue reading "8 Stocks Worth Looking At This Monday"
