This Healthcare Company Is In The Middle Of A Huge Turnaround

Daniel Cross - INO.com Contributor - Equities

Nothing excites investors more than a turnaround story. A company or stock that was down on its luck and has finally turned the corner is a feel-good play that's hard to ignore.

One company in the healthcare sector fits this definition perfectly. After soaring to new heights in the early 2000's, the company was racked by scandals and lawsuits nearly driving the company into bankruptcy. However, after a reorganization and a new outlook, the company has rebuilt its image and business into a successful company that's thriving today.

The healthcare industry is a growing field and a defensive one to be in considering how delicate the global economy is. One factor helping the industry along is an aging demographic. As of 2015, 14% of the US population was aged 65 or older. By 2020, that number is expected to rise to 22% thanks largely to the baby boomer generation who are heading into their retirement years. Doubts And Fears Still Loom For The Dollar

Lior Alkalay - INO.com Contributor - Forex

Growth momentum is back in America? That is what investors believe after the positive surprise from the latest US GDP release. The second US GDP release for Q4 2015 was revised higher to 1% from 0.7%. Core PCE Inflation was also encouraging, reflecting a 1.67% rate of inflation. But while data from the last quarter has certainly been less anaemic, Dollar bulls shouldn’t pop the champagne just yet. Doubts over the current quarter continue to exist. Risks still loom and hurdles need to be cleared before we get another move higher.

What Looms On The Dollar?

Of course, I continue to reiterate that the Dollar’s long-term trajectory is still up. However, there are soft patches along the way because even the US economy can’t always perform well. And when those soft patches occur the FX market will be filled with doubt and the Dollar will dip again.

Then, when once again it becomes clear the US economy is still the outpacing its peers, confidence will return. And with that, we will get another bullish wave. But as long as there is doubt the Dollar will find it hard to break into new highs. Continue reading "Doubts And Fears Still Loom For The Dollar"

Ride The Prevailing Winds With This Utility Play

Daniel Cross - INO.com Contributor - Equities

Almost two months into 2016 and the stock market isn't sending investors much news to cheer about. The S&P 500 is down roughly 6% year-to-date and global economic concerns regarding a lack of growth and record low oil prices means that volatility is high and investors are skittish.

While high growth sectors like energy and industrials are suffering, defensive sectors finally have their moment to shine. But not all defensive sectors are performing as well as expected in the current environment. Consumer staples, generally a sector that does well when the broader averages are doing poorly, doesn't have much to offer investors. The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (PACF:XLP) is up marginally at only 1%. However, there's another defensive sector is enjoying the performance spotlight. Safe Haven Test: 1+ Year After SNB Shock

Aibek Burabayev - INO.com Contributor - Metals

More than a year ago, on the 15th of January 2015, the market was shocked by the sharp move of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) abandoning the cap of the Swiss franc to the euro. I dedicated a special post to that event. This time, I've made a comparative chart for the period from the start of 2015 until today to show you how the SNB's move affected the safe haven currency for the past 13 months.

The Swiss franc is in an inverse cross here (CHFUSD) to comfort your perception of both assets dynamics against the US dollar.

The shock was short-lived as the currency quickly lost the gains during the first quarter of 2015. The Franc caught up with falling gold in a very tight correlation. They bottomed at the same time in March of 2015 and then reversed to the upside and peaked in May of 2015. The similarity of trends continued with the metal gapping deeper on the drops. Rare short interruptions of the link occurred last December and this month when gold increased its value and the franc didn't. Continue reading "Safe Haven Test: 1+ Year After SNB Shock"

How You Can Profit From Those Annoying Political Campaign Ads

Matt Thalman - INO.com Contributor - ETFs

With the Presidential Election just nine months away, now is a good time to start considering how 'you' the average American can benefit from this once every four-year circus event. I recently spoke about how it's likely firearm stocks could see a boost from this event, today I would like to discuss another industry likely to see revenues increase.

But, before we jump into how you can make money this election season, let's take a look at what is making this all possible.

During the 2008 Presidential Election more than $7 billion were spent according to Borrell Associate's estimates. In 2012, election spending was estimated to hit $9.8 billion. But as of now, the 2016 election cycle is expected to see $11.4 billion spent. Now these figures are not just for spending on Presidential campaigns, but all political office's votes will be held for this year.
