Gold Futures

Gold futures in the February contract settled last Friday around 1,190 while currently trading at 1,223 this afternoon near a 6 week high as I’ve been recommending to sit on the sidelines in this market as volatility is way too high and the risk is also way too high in my opinion, however it does look to me like a bottom has been placed here in the short term with gold spiking from the 1,140 level last week and then rebounding around 100 dollars in the last 7 trading days which is incredibly impressive as the stock market is sharply lower this afternoon sending money back into the gold and precious metal sector. Gold futures are trading above their 20 but still below their 100 day moving average telling you that the trend is lower as I will remain neutral as the chart structure is awful at this time, however if you do think gold has bottomed my recommendation would be to buy at today’s price level while placing your stop loss below 1,186 risking around $37 or $3,700 per contract plus slippage and commission but the risk is too high & does not meet my criteria so I will wait for better chart structure to develop but I have to admit its sure fun to watch.
TREND: HIGHER
CHART STRUCTURE: AWFUL

There Will Be No Santa Claus Rally This Year

Hello traders and MarketClub members everywhere! Every December it's the same tune, the "Santa Claus Rally." That happens when the market rallies and closes close to or at its best levels for the year. I for one am not sure that is going to take place this year, and here's the reason why.

Late last night, I think it was about 12:30AM, I posted on our member blog that Friday could turn real ugly! I came to that conclusion based on yesterday's market action which had to disappoint the bulls with the weak market close. Couple yesterday's market action with the action we saw on Wednesday and you can put together a composite picture of just how this market is beginning to fall on its own weight. Should the S&P 500 close lower today, it will be the biggest weekly loss in over two months, not a good sign.

One of the key areas I'm are watching today on the NASDAQ is 4,653. Should this level be broken and I expect it will be, that will put all three of the indices in a trading range indicating that intermediate-term traders should be on the sidelines. This analysis dovetails very well with my December view of the markets. Continue reading "There Will Be No Santa Claus Rally This Year"

Befriend The December Volatility!

Matt Thalman - INO.com Contributor - ETFs

As we roll through the second week of December, the markets seem to be going a little crazy as the year comes to an end. From January 1st until November 28th of this year, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 7.02% while the S&P 500 was up 10.6%. But, over the first week and a half of December, the Dow has lost 1.68% while the broader S&P 500 has fallen 2.04%.

Furthermore, the bulk of those declines came earlier this week when the markets closed lower Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And not only did the major indexes end the sessions off the mark, but their intraday lows put the indexes down by more than 1.25% on two of the three trading sessions.

The downward pressure being felt earlier this week could easily be blamed on a number of things which I am sure they were by many of the pundits out there; oil prices falling, oil prices rising, issues in Europe and Draghi not doing enough, slowing growth in Asia, weak growth numbers here at home, a poor start to the holiday shopping season, the list could go on and on. But, I personally don't believe any of those reasons are why the market has recently been falling.

5 Major Stocks In Major Trouble

Hello traders and MarketClub members everywhere! At the beginning of December I published a post titled, "December Can Be A Dangerous Month For Traders." It looks like that prediction is coming true as we are seeing increasing volatility not just in stocks, but in the broad indices as well.

In today's video, I'm going to be looking at five major stocks that are in major trouble, in my opinion. These are all well-known stocks that have, at one time, been the darling of investors' portfolios. I have always believed in Newton's Law of Gravity and it would appear as though these five stocks are coming back down to earth.

I'm going to start off with perhaps the biggest name, it is a service I use every day as I am sure you do too, and that is Google, Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG). Continue reading "5 Major Stocks In Major Trouble"

Are You Ready to Become a Full Time Forex Trader?

There is not a part-time trader out there who doesn’t dream of getting to the point where they can throw their day job to the wayside and trade currency from the deck of their pool. This is a legitimate fantasy that few will achieve, and for those that do it will be a hard road to get there.

There will be no chance of success at becoming a full time Forex trader until you honestly evaluate the following factors to see if it is viable in your situation:

Start Up Capital

How much is in your Forex account right now? $1,000? 2 grand? How much more can you add to it? Remember, pips don’t equal much when converted into cash and not even leveraging with that amount of money is going to make you self sufficient any time soon. Brokers don’t leverage more than what you have on hand to lose. Continue reading "Are You Ready to Become a Full Time Forex Trader?"
