Upcoming Facebook Earnings - A Nonevent Long-Term

Upcoming Earnings

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) is due to announce earnings on July 26th after the market closes. Facebook tends to be volatile after earnings are announced and typically pop to the upside as Facebook’s earnings have continued to post robust growth. Back on June 2nd, 2017, I authored an article “Facebook Will Hit $175 By Year End” and with five more months to go before the end of the year, I think Facebook has a good chance of breaking through this number. Facebook has been on an uptrend heading into earnings and currently sits at $160 per share and while the stock is up 39% YTD. These numbers may seem staggering, and some would state that buying at these levels would be cashing the stock. Normally I would agree with this approach. However, I think Facebook is an exception to this situation. Even at these levels and YTD appreciation, factoring in Facebook’s projected growth with tech comparators such as Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN), collectively known as the FANG stocks, Facebook is superior with a lower risk profile. Facebook’s projected growth is greater than Google’s and just shy of Amazon’s yet has a P/E ratio that’s lower than Google’s and a fraction of Amazon’s and Netflix’s. Regardless of the upcoming earnings announcement, this will be an immaterial event to the long term narrative for Facebook investors. I feel that Facebook represents value even after this massive run YTD and continue my long thesis. Continue reading "Upcoming Facebook Earnings - A Nonevent Long-Term"

How The Mighty Have Fallen

Today I want to start off by thanking the brave men and women who have and continue to serve and protect our country. Thank you for all that you do!

Let's look at two very well-known and some would say mighty stocks. Both of these stocks are households names and have proven to be safe investments over time. The question now is, is that dynamic changing or has it changed already? Let's get started by looking the first stock.

MarketClub's Mid-day Market Report

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG): For the first time in a long time Alphabet triggered a major sell signal which pushed all of the Trade Triangles into a negative mode. The first indication that there was trouble afoot for GOOG came on November 2 when the weekly Trade Triangle gave a red exit signal at $773. Is GOOG a buy here or is this once mighty stock headed lower? Continue reading "How The Mighty Have Fallen"

The Story of Three A's - Apple, Amazon and Alphabet

Hello MarketClub members everywhere. Well, we are at the beginning of a new week on a rather unusual day when we have three sixes in the date, that's not going to happen again until the 26th or until we hit 2026. That occurrence aside, I want to take a look at all the markets and in particular, the three A's

Did Warren Buffett Just Shoot Down Negative Interest Rates?

Hello MarketClub Members everywhere, Adam Hewison here, wishing you a happy and prosperous May. I believe this month is going to be a very pivotal one for the stock market.

In the back of many traders' minds is the old market adage, "sell in May and go away". Is that what is going to happen this May? It is perhaps a little too early to tell as there are many, many factors in play the least of which is, of course, the presidential election which has electrified and gripped the country in a way that I have never seen before. Like always, I'm going to rely on the Trade Triangles to tell me what is going on in the marketplace.

MarketClub's Mid-day Market Report

This morning, Warren Buffett indicated that he would take his money out of the banks if he had to pay them to keep his money. What he was referring to was negative interest rates. Berkshire Hathaway, which is the operation that Warren Buffett runs, is a conglomerate of companies and has about $60 billion in cash that it keeps in the bank. With the current low-interest rates, Berkshire Hathaway is earning about $600 million a year as opposed to the several billion of dollars it would earn in a more normal interest rate environment.

So in essence when one of the top investors in the world indicates that he would pull his money out of banks, he was saying to Janet Yellen, the head of the Fed, to back off the idea of negative interest rates. Way to go Warren - I think you win this one. Continue reading "Did Warren Buffett Just Shoot Down Negative Interest Rates?"

How The Mighty Have Fallen

Hello MarketClub members everywhere! You have heard me say this many times before, perception is an extremely powerful force in the markets. We see just how powerful this force is with the recent move down of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Once the darling of the tech world, Apple's time may be over as Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and the mighty Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) take over the leadership mantle.
